Juan M. Haut (Senior Member, IEEE) is an Associate Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) at the Department of Computer and Communication Technology at the University of Extremadura in Cáceres, Spain. He is also a member of the Hyperspectral Computing Laboratory (HyperComp). Dr. Haut earned his B.Sc. in Computer Management Engineering (2011), B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (2014), M.Sc. in Secondary Education Teaching (2014), M.Sc. in Computer Engineering (2016) and his Ph.D. in Information Technology (2019), all from the University of Extremadura. His doctoral thesis, supervised by Drs. A. Plaza and J. Plaza, was awarded Sobresaliente Cum Laude with international mention, the Outstanding Ph.D. Award, and the IEEE Spain GRSS Best PhD Thesis Award in Remote Sensing.
Dr. Haut's research focuses on remote sensing data processing and high-dimensional data analysis, applying deep learning, high-performance computing (GPU/HPC) and cloud computing approaches. He has authored or co-authored 85 JCR journal articles (52 Q1, 27 Q2) and more than 70 peer-reviewed conference papers at venues such as IEEE IGARSS, IEEE WHISPERS and SARTECO. He has an h-index of 40 and over 7,600 citations (Google Scholar). Some of his publications have been recognized by Clarivate Essential Science Indicators as Research Front and Hot Papers. He was awarded the Outstanding Paper Award at IEEE WHISPERS 2019 and IEEE HyperMLPA 2021.
He has performed ~400 peer reviews and has been recognized as Best Reviewer of IEEE GRSL (2018) and IEEE TGRS (2021). He serves or has served as Associate Editor for IEEE TGRS, IEEE GRSL, IEEE JMASS, and Nature Scientific Reports, and as Guest Editor for special issues in Remote Sensing and IEEE JSTARS. He is currently President of the Spanish Chapter of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS).
He has participated in 17 competitive research projects (8 regional, 8 national, 1 European), serving as PI in 6 of them, including a European project and a Leonardo Grant from the BBVA Foundation. In 2022 he received the Research Excellence Award (Young Researchers, technical field) from the University of Extremadura.
